You could say that Ciel Power LLC is a natural treasure in the Garden State. The company motto is to “deliver sustainability to New Jersey, one house at a time.” Since its founding 10 years ago, Ciel Power has done just that—and more. The company walks the walk, so to speak, and has embodied the high standards required for Pearl Certification since its inception.
Scott Fischer is Ciel's co-founder and managing member. “I work closely with local environmental groups, elected officials, and environmental science and sustainability leaders to develop and promote community partnerships designed to increase energy efficiency awareness,” says Fischer. Ciel Power was highlighted in The New York Times in 2018 and has become a regular contributor as an energy expert on ABC World News Tonight. The company also earned The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR’s Contractor of the Year awards for 2019, 2020, and 2021. Because of its sustained efforts, the company is in the top 1% of energy efficiency consultants.
Ciel Power partners with cities across New Jersey to offer home energy audits at affordable prices. As described in the Times article mentioned above, Ciel partnered with the city of Summit, New Jersey, to offer home energy audits for just $49. Through that program, 200 residents received energy audits and 40 retrofitted their homes.
Along with Ciel's partnerships, they work directly with individual customers to create high-performing homes that provide comfort and safety while lowering utility bills and improving the home's value. “The work that we do is very meaningful, but it is largely invisible to prospective buyers and appraisers,” says Fischer. Pearl provides a third-party verification by documenting the products and services Ciel Power provides. “We work to include Pearl Certifications into every level of our business process, including our marketing outreach, welcome emails, customer reporting, and completion process.”
Ciel Power’s Pearl Certified work benefits homeowners in the short term by creating more efficient homes, but it also helps sellers and buyers of homes in the long term. Pearl Certification has helped the company create long-term customers, allowing Ciel Power to work with them on their second and even third homes.
While Ciel Power acts locally, they also think globally. For every audit the company performs, they plant a tree. And they are well on their way to total electrification of their fleet of service vehicles. The company has also sponsored several events in an effort to make the world a more sustainable place. In 2018, they sponsored both an environmental panel discussion and a sustainable fashion show, which highlighted using recycled materials for clothing. The panel discussion, focused on local actions having a global impact, was held at the Reeves-Reed Arboretum in Summit. Once it was over, Executive Director Frank Juliano concluded by saying, “Reeves-Reed Arboretum, Ciel Power, Green Summit, we all look to you, our experts, our neighbors, our family, our friends, for innovation, for common-sense solutions to a fair, more kind and sustainable world.”
The company’s business success and contribution to sustainability are evident in its home state of New Jersey, and its green footprint is reaching across the country. “We’re excited to enter the winter season—historically our busiest—with the added value of having the Pearl Certification as part of our customer journey,” says Fischer.
