Healthy Home Energy and Consulting is a full-service home energy efficiency and home improvement company serving customers throughout New York, particularly in Northern Westchester and Putnam County. "I’ve been in the housing business for over thirty years and started Healthy Home Energy and Consulting about twelve years ago.," says Founder and President Kevin Brenner. "Our focus is on energy efficient improvements, improving indoor air quality, and fossil-fuel-free HVAC systems (primarily heat pumps). We are a vertically integrated company and we subcontract out very little, especially since we recently added an HVAC department." Q: What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a company and how did you overcome it?
A: Talent acquisition! We first tried to hire experienced people, which proved difficult. Either people were not experienced or didn't know what we thought they should know. We pivoted to finding and hiring good people; the kind we want to work with whose values align with our own. Once we find the right people, we train them on what we need them to know.
Q: What has been your greatest accomplishment, or something you’re most proud of?
A: Outside of my wife and family, I really feel like we're doing our part to save our planet. It may be corny, but it's the truth. I also like providing careers for like-minded people. It makes me proud to have a group of people all working together toward a common goal.
Q: What exciting or interesting trends are you seeing in the industry these days?
A: COVID-19 has made people more aware of indoor air quality and they are looking for ways to improve their homes. We’re trying to capitalize on this increased awareness by helping our customers improve the quality of the air while improving the efficiency of their homes.
We’re also excited that we have an administration that believes in climate change. They trust what the scientists are saying about global warming. This provides a greater opportunity to make what we do even more public. I hope that the new administration will help promote energy efficiency and indoor air quality to make it more mainstream.
Q: What’s your favorite pastime?
A: I love being outdoors: snowboarding in winter, anything on or under the water during the summer. I also love mountain biking. Even though the indoor air quality of my house is exceptional (I have a Pearl Certified Platinum home), I try to get outdoors as much as I can.
